Coolagown is a rural streetscape village situated four miles east of Fermoy just off the N72. It lies between the valleys of the Bride and Blackwater.
Unaffected by large-scale housing development, Coolagown consists of approximately thirty houses and a 19th century Roman Catholic Church. Coole Abbey House built in 1641 and the ruins of two medieval churches are also close by.
CĂșil an Ghabhann (Coolagown) means the nook of the blacksmith. At one time there were three blacksmiths working in the area. Now there are three stud farms - Coolagown, Rathbarry and Bendemeer.
Coolagown has always had a strong association with the horse and we have maintained this with the use of horseshoe motifs on the farmyard gates throughout the village. We have also erected a blacksmith sculpture against the backdrop of a forge in the centre of the village.
The village has benefitted from visual and environmental enhancements through the work of the residents and Coolagown Development Group.
